At South Shore Equine Clinic, we understand that treating a horse with colic can be both emotionally and financially overwhelming. Too often, horses with a good chance of recovery are euthanized because treatment costs are simply out of reach. That is why we created our Colic Assistance Plan: an affordable way to help clients access essential medical care when their horse needs it most.

Our Colic Assistance Plan is available for all owners, all horses, and all colic situations that are treated medically at our clinic. The program is designed to make emergency colic care more manageable by offering hospitalization, fluid therapy, medications, supplies, and intensive care for a fixed flat fee structure.

Once enrolled and active, the plan works simply: if your horse is admitted to South Shore Equine Clinic for a colic episode, a $500 deductible covers up to $3,000 of eligible treatment costs per year. This helps provide peace of mind and allows owners to make medical decisions based on what is best for their horse, not just immediate financial pressure.

Restrictions and Important Details

To qualify for the Colic Assistance Plan, horses must be treated by a South Shore Equine Clinic veterinarian and must receive care at our clinic in Plympton, Massachusetts. Financial assistance becomes effective 30 days after the program is purchased.

The plan covers eligible services up to $3,000 per colic episode. Any costs above that amount are the responsibility of the owner. Horses enrolled in the Superior Preventative Wellness Plan receive 5% off additional services beyond the covered amount.

Before enrollment, each horse must undergo a pre-enrollment identification examination by an SSEC veterinarian. This evaluation is not covered by the program and costs $75, although the fee is waived for horses enrolled in the Superior Preventative Wellness Plan. Clients must also provide proof of ownership for each horse enrolled.

The $500 deductible is due at the time of admission for each colic episode. Transportation to the clinic may be available through South Shore Equine Clinic, but transportation costs are not covered under the program. Euthanasia and burial services are also not covered. South Shore Equine Clinic reserves the right to cancel colic assistance for any horse at any time without prior notice.

The yearly fee for the Colic Assistance Program is $150 and if the patient is enrolled in the Superior Preventative Wellness Plan, the price is reduced from $150 to $99.
